Every now and then, a project lands on my work bench that’s just too fun not to share.
I was recently asked by Lisa, the maker behind artisan candle brand Fiery Fox Candles, to create a custom metal sign for the new shop she was about to open.
From the moment Lisa got in touch, I knew this was going to be something special. After all, when a Firefly teams up with a Fiery Fox, sparks are bound to fly!
The Vision: Bold, Black, and Foxy
Lisa had a few key requests from the start:
-
The sign needed to reflect her Fiery Fox logo.
-
It had to be finished in classic black.
-
And she wanted it to be illuminated - a real standout piece, both day and night.
With her branding in hand, I set about turning her design into something strong, stylish, and built to last.
From PNG to Plasma
The first step was converting Lisa’s logo into a format suitable for cutting. This involved a bit of back-and-forth, fine-tuning the details to make sure the design would cut cleanly and stay structurally sound in steel - especially those finer elements around the fox’s geometric body.
Once the design was finalised, I cut the piece from heavy-duty steel using our state-of-the-art CNC plasma cutter, followed by sanding and de-burring, before sending it off to another local business for professional powder coating in a classic matt black.
Lighting It Up
To make the sign really pop, I added discreet, colour-matched, stand-off wall mounts ready for LED illumination. Lisa handled the lighting setup herself, and when she sent over a snap of the finished install - I’ll be honest - it looked 🔥.
The Final Result
This project ticked every box I love:
-
A clear creative brief
-
A fellow independent maker with a strong visual brand
-
And a chance to make something one-of-a-kind, just for them
If you’re local, go visit Fiery Fox at The Courtyard Craft Centre, Lytchett Minster - you won’t miss the sign!
(Just make sure you leave some Oud candles for me... they smell insanely good and are my all-time fave!)
In the meantime... watch this!
